Jocelyn Richard, founder of The Praise Dance Life, taught conference attendees about creating more dynamic dances and encouraging a congregation in worship at the "Arise Worship Dance Conference" held in mid-May 2013 in Homewood, Ill.
Jocelyn reminded the gathering to seek God first to know what His will was for their dance ministry and how they are to minister to His people.
"How can you minister if you don't know His heart?" she asked.
She also told them that their public ministry time was not the time for their personal uplifting.
"Don't use the sanctuary as the platform to get your deliverance," she cautioned. She compared it to their pastor, who might get up to deliver a sermon on Sunday, but who would pause and stop. apparently digesting and gleaning revelation from the message . . . as if just reading it for the first time.
There was also a time for practical dance technique application, with Jocelyn leading the group in doing several ballet moves (plies, tendues and chaissez) and then later taking about 15 minutes to work ing roups of three and four to create choreography for a piece of music.
